This event is organized by INFN, University of Sassari and by the SNAKE (Sharing Software Knowledge) non-profit organisation. The Seminar offers lectures to Ph.D. students, medical physicists and young researchers working at Universities or Research Institutes.
The lectures also include a full official basic course on the Geant4 Monte Carlo simulation toolkit. Lectures will cover all aspects of the toolkit from basic installation through advanced topics and will be interspersed with examples that build a progressively more complex application, extensible to real space and medical use.
On the last day of the School, students will have the opportunity to test their learning achievements through a written exam. The successful outcome of the test will be reported on a written certificate for those interested, to be requested on arrival, at the registration desk. A simple attendance certificate will also be available on request.
This year the school will host a cycle of seminars on particle detectors, a course on machine learning fundamentals and application in physics and a course on Python programming language.
Staying at Hotel Porto Conte is mandatory for all the participants: due to the limited room availability at the Hotel, a maximum number of 45 participants can be admitted. Registration is closed, as the maximum number of participants has been reached. A waiting list is available.
All participants must comply with the Italian regulations against COVID-19.
The registration fee is 250,00 euro if paid before April 15th 2022 (early registration) and 350,00 euro if paid after April 15th 2022.
We do require that the fee is paid (wire transfer only) before May 10th. After this deadline, incomplete registrations will be cancelled.
The fee should be paid by wire transfer to the following bank account:
Please send an email to sharingsoftwareknowledge@gmail.com with the transfer details, including the name and the institution of the participant, once the payment has been completed.
Please arrange the wire transfer such that we receive the complete fee amount, net of all bank and currency-exchange fees.
Cancellation policy: full refund for cancellations before May 15th, 2022. For cancellations after May 15th, 2022: 50% refund.
Participants are requested to fill both the on-line form and the hotel registration form. To complete the hotel reservation is necessary to send the Hotel Registration Form to the Hotel Porto Conte (Mail: info@hotelportoconte.it, Phone: +39-079942035, Fax: +39-079942045). Staying at Hotel Porto Conte is mandatory for all the participants.
Hotel rates for the school are intended for full board accommodation (room, breakfast and 2 meals) and are reported in the registration form. Due to the limited number of available single rooms in the hotel, the accommodation in a single room will be considered as much as possible in the order in which they are received. You can indicate your preferred room-mate in the Special Requirement section, in case you select the double accommodation.
Participants are recommended to bring their own laptop. A virtual machine with Linux-CentOS and a ready-to-use Geant4 and python installation is available (with the instructions) at this link.
All students are invited to download and test in advance that the Virtual Machine is working (the network at the hotel has a limited badnwidth). It is recommended to keep a backup copy of the .zip or .tar.gz archive of the VM to restore the VM to its initial state in case of need.
A limited number of grants are available. They cover fee and accommodation expenses only. No support for travel expenses is available. Deadline for application is February 25th -- EXPIRED --.
Ph.D. students and young researchers can apply submitting a curriculum vitae, an abstract on their research activity and register to the indico page. Applications by partecipants not registered to the indico page will be discharged. Grant winners will present their research activity in a dedicated session.
