We hope you are healthy and able to nimbly go through these hard times. Certainly, we are all missing seeing each other at different conferences exchanging ideas (and having some fun). The current situation is especially hard for PhD students, who are lacking the feedback of experienced scientists and their peers from other research groups. To try to compensate for that, Tübingen and Korea universities organized a common Zoom PhD students’ workshop in May 2021. There were six presentations from PhD students in their final year over the course of two three-hour sessions; more than 40 PhD and Master students from both research groups attended and the feedback was very positive.
The success of the workshop gave us the idea to explore its extension by including additional research groups from our field of interest. Because the latter overlaps with the one of our GSSMO Gospel workshops, we decided to organize it under Gospel umbrella and the SC expressed its interest and support; an example of this support is the website you now visit. To date, more than 25 research groups responded positively to our call, and the Gospel SC already made the selection for the first 16 speakers; they will present their results in a series of 8 two-hour meetings starting on October 20th, 2021. The platform for the presentations and discussions will be Zoom.
If you are interested in any of the aspects of the field of research dealing with gas sensors based on semiconducting metal oxides – fundamental understanding of sensing, technology, applications – we recommend you register and find out more. In the case you are being a PhD student or an early PostDoc, you may even be interested to present your own work. You will have the possibility to submit an abstract and the SC will decide if and when that will be possible. Anyways, you do not need to be a presenter to listen to your colleagues from all over the world; you just need to register!
With your help I am sure that we will have a very exciting workshop.
Looking forward to seeing you soon,
Gospel SC chairperson
