Dear Colleagues,

The call for the fall session of our workshop was not met with a lot of interest, which indicates that our plans were too ambitious. Accordingly, we will skip it and accept submissions for the summer session, tentatively to start in April, until the end of February 2023.

We will keep the format and the focus on PhDs and early-stage PostDocs but there will also be some changes, namely we will have a few invited contributions from well-recognized experts from both the Industry and the Academia – stay tuned for the details by regularly visiting our website:

It will provide updates on the workshop program, registration and submission of contributions. Please remember that free of charge registration will be open for the entire duration of the PhD GOSPEL Workshop and it is mandatory to attend the seminars and to access the relative abstracts. If you need help, please contact

We are looking forward to an exciting new edition of the Workshop, which only your contribution will make possible!

Best regards and enjoy your holidays,

Gospel Steering Committee

Registration for this event is currently open.

Block Course „Sensoren“ Wahlveranstaltung Analytische Chemie (ANM 7): Chemical Sensors – Basics, Technology and Applications

                                                                                           06.03.2023 – 17.03.2023

This block course, held entirely in English, provides an excellent knowledge basis for advanced research in the field of chemical gas sensors and their applications. The working principles of the most commonly used chemical sensors – electrochemical with both liquid and solid electrolytes, conductometric based on semiconducting metal oxides sensitive materials, calorimetric and gravimetric – will be explained in detail. Possible production technologies, applications and how the resulting data is most appropriately evaluated will be detailed.

Based on the experience of the last two editions we decided to provide, well in advance, online access to: some of the lectures and all information about the experiments; all the data to be evaluated as well as the instructions about how to do that. This will be done by sharing all of that with you in the form of recorded videos supported by PDF documents. The objective is to make sure that, when you arrive in Tübingen, you have a clear idea about the content of the block course and what we are expecting from you. On site, the content of the already provided lectures will be discussed with you in a seminar format and the rest of the lectures will be given. All experimental work will take place in presence and the respective sessions will start with a discussion based on the material you were provided in advance. The evaluation of the experimental data, again provided in advance, will take place in seminar format sessions where you will present your results, discuss them and deepen your knowledge together with your assistants. It is up to you which software you use to evaluate the data. The successful evaluation of the data is the prerequisite for getting ECTS points.

In the unfortunate case in which we will face travel restrictions, we will be able to transfer everything online as proven last year. We will, probably, be also able to deal with the case in which the travel restrictions will affect only a part of the students by providing Zoom access to the lectures and the data evaluation sessions.

In order to register for the block course you are required to send an email to peter.janoschek@ipc.uni-tuebingen.de until December 31st, 2022. A registration after this date will not be accepted. As soon as the date has passed, if registered, you will get access to the recordings of selected lectures, presentations of the lab works and the, to be evaluated, data. Please see to it that you have reviewed everything thoroughly and evaluated the provided data until March 06th 2023 where the block course will start. The exact schedule of these sessions will be communicated to you latest end of February. This is also the date at which the access to the block course materials will end. All updates will be posted at https://weimar.ipc.uni-tuebingen.de/index.php?id=924 and in the ILIAS-group “PC0810 – ANM7 – Sensoren (Vorlesung)” (for Tuebingen students only, direct link: https://ovidius.uni-tuebingen.de/ilias3/goto.php?target=crs_569427&client_id=pr02)

It is essential to constantly check either the website or the ILIAS-group for updates on the current organizational status.

In case you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to send an email to the email address you also registered with.

Looking forward to your participation,

Best regards,

Dr. Nicolae Barsan
