Description

It took 100 years from Einstein’s prediction to the first detection of gravitational waves on 14 September 2015 - the 10-year anniversary is this September! With >90 published detections from the first 3 observing runs and >200 significant event candidates from the current O4 run, the field of GW astronomy is thriving. Machine learning applications to GWs, though often still in early stages, are already making an impact across GW science. With a recent phase transition from “proofs of concept” to the first noise mitigation, signal search and parameter estimation ML algorithms productively contributing to the LVK science outputs, there is a bright future ahead.
