PUBLIC LECTURE
The public lecture will be held by Prof. Francesco Vissani on July 4 at 5:30 pm at Teatro Garibaldi in Modica (click here). The title of the public lecture is: "Majorana come ponte fra materia e antimateria" and will be held in Italian. Greetings from the institutional and scientific authorities will open the event. The percursionist band of the high school "Giovanni Verga" of Modica will entertain the event.
The event is open and the access is free.
Francesco Vissani è dirigente di ricerca presso i Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso dell'Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare. Da sempre interessato ai neutrini e alla fisica oltre il modello standard, ha pubblicato più di 100 articoli e diverse monografie su questi argomenti, che lo rendono uno dei massimi esperti mondiali viventi. Ha insegnato presso le Università dell'Aquila e di Campinas (Brasile), è docente nei corsi di dottorato di Milano e Napoli (SSM) ed è stato il primo coordinatore del programma di dottorato del Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI). Per le sue ricerche sui neutrini ha vinto la prima Medaglia Occhialini, un prestigioso premio istituito congiuntamente dalla Società Italiana di Fisica e dall'Institute of Physics (IOP) del Regno Unito e dell'Irlanda. È molto interessato al ruolo della scienza nella nostra società, per questo ha creato il premio ASIMOV per la divulgazione scientifica nel 2015 in collaborazione con molti colleghi e scuole superiori italiane, ed è direttamente impegnato su molti fronti per la cultura scientifica.
CONFERENCE EXCURSIONS AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
Several excursions and social activities have been organized for the School and the Workshop and are included in the fee.
- Thursday July 6 evening: guided walking tour along Modica historical center;
- Friday July 7 evening: Cioccolato di Modica IGP and typical Sicilian wine tasting at Palazzo Grimaldi.
- Saturday July 8 afternoon: excursion to Sampieri beach (bathing suit recommended!).
- Sunday July 9 full day: excursions to Ragusa Ibla and Scicli, Val di Noto towns. In June 2002, UNESCO inscribed the towns of the Val di Noto on the World Heritage List as "representing the culmination and final flowering of Baroque art in Europe" (Wikipedia).
- Wednesday July 12 evening: master chocolatier will show the traditional method to prepare the Cioccolato di Modica IGP.
SCHOOL & WORKSHOP SOCIAL DINNERS
Two social dinners based on typical Sicilian cuisine dishes will be proposed to the School and Workshop participants. The cost of dinner and transportation are included in the fee.
School social dinner will take place at Calabistrot in Sampieri on July 10.
Workshop social dinner will take place at Villa Principe di Belmonte in Ispica on July 13.
