Tourism in Catania

Catania is the larget metropolitan area of eastern Sicily and its origins lay in the Greek civilization. A pre-conference or post-conference staying is recommended and easy to organize.  The city is full of cultural heritage and a World Heritage unesco site itself for its baroque.
It is also at the feet of Mt. Etna, the highest vulcano in Europe and in the middle of Sicilian Eastern coast which alternates sandy beaches to lavic cliffs.

Sicily hosts seven  World Heritage UNESCO cultural sites. Some of them are within 1h from the conference venue which is very well connected by public transportation. Here is a list : Mt. Etna, Siracusa and Pantalica,Catania and the late Baroque towns of Val di Noto, Roman Villa in Piazza Armerina and its mosaics, Greek temples of Agrigento, Aeolian Islands, Palermo Monreale and Cefalù arab norman monuments.
Many others are still in the tentative list like Mothya and the Punic ruins Taormina. The conference trip will take place in one of them. The conference travel agency (present in the conference venue) can help to organize additional trips and excursion for a reasonable charge.Touristic Site of the Catania Province
