Description

The Particle Physics Community Planning Exercise, “Snowmass”, is a prioritization process for scientific goals in the 5–10-year time scale organized by the Division of Particles and Fields of the American Physical Society. The topics of the extended forum are organized into 10 Frontiers, and each Frontier is further divided into Topical Groups. Community members organize within and across the Topical Groups to submit Letters of Interest on particular topics, which are used to coordinate Contributed (White) Papers. This talk focuses on the Contributed Papers submitted to the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Topical Group of the Community Engagement Frontier of Snowmass, as well as their synthesization into the DEI Topic Group Report. The topics covered by the Contributed Papers range from pinpointing obstacles to members of marginalized communities in the United States, to analyzing Cultural-Climate Reports of institutes and collaborations, to identifying imbalances in power dynamics which lead to inequitable research environments. This spring and summer the Contributed Papers will be condensed into increasingly encompassing reports aiming to provide clear recommendations to the funding agencies and the general HEP community.
