Travel Information

The FATA2019 will be hosted by the Accademia degli Zelanti e dei Dafnici, in the picturesque town of Acireale, near the Etna volcano. Acireale is located on the shoreline close to Catania. The Accademia degli Zelanti e dei Dafnici is located at N°17 of Via Marchese di Sangiuliano. Click here for a map. It is an academic organization engaged in promoting cultural events within the local territory.
Acireale can be easily reached by train or by bus from downtown Catania. Details about transportation and accommodation will be provided in the second circular and shortly on this conference web site .

How to reach Acireale from Catania Airport

By public transports: Outside the "Fontanarossa" airport terminal (arrival level, out from the airport on the left) there is a public bus stop of Azienda Municipale Trasporti (AMT). The AMT line number nicknamed "Alibus" runs about every 20 minutes, from 4.40 am to midnight (see here) from the Airport to the Catania Central Station. You can buy the ticket on board, ticket price: €4.00. Remember to validate your ticket at the box placed inside the bus. Get out of the bus at the Catania central station bus stop (Stazione Est); there you will find Azienda Siciliana Trasporti (AST) and ETNA/Interbus terminal buses (cross the road) and Trenitalia train station (just behind AMT bus stop). There are several buses or trains going to Acireale. Please note that you need to buy a new ticket there. Timetables can be found at the following links:

Trenitalia search page. Please note that Acireale train Staion is not well connected to the city center and conference venue. Walking distance is about 2.1 km and for the first part of the route (about 500 m) you have to walk on a road that is outside the city.

By Taxi: There is a Radio-taxi service (+39-095-330966) which usually offers good fares.
Taxis are available at any time outside the airport. The cost is around € 55 (see here). Taxis are also available outside the Central Station.
We recommend you to not use taxis different from the former. The others will ask you very high fares.

By car: It is not complicated to reach Acireale coming from Airport. However, in this case we suggest you to use a good map or a GPS navigation system.

If you are coming by train from North (i.e. Messina) to Catania you can get out of the train at Acireale Station.
