Social program
Due to the exceptional heat wave that is hitting Italy this week (37 C expected in Trieste on Wed), and considering that many participants did not yet have a chance to visit Trieste, we shortened the excursion from the original plan of the full afternoon in Muggia, to an half afternoon in Trieste. This will hopefully leave us enough energy to properly enjoy the night's social dinner.
At noon, at the end of the second morning lecture, we'll have free time until 16h15 (sharp!) when we will meet at Grignano's port (close to the Adriatico Guesthouse) to get the Delfino Verde sea lines toward Trieste. Please be on time. At 17h15 we'll get to Trieste downtown.
Everybody will be free to walk around to visit the city, sip a coffee, or a beer, do some shopping, you name it -- some of us will walk around a simple itinerary through historic downtown (*). If you prefer to explore on your own, you can find some advice on the tourist map in your arrival kit, or in the itineraries proposed by web site of the city of Trieste (in Italian, English and German) on different themes: architecture, history, literature, religion.
At about 19h30 those who want will reconvene in Piazza Unita' d'Italia, in front of the City Hall, for a short walk toward the Società Triestina della Vela (STV) where the social dinner will be served. The others will join us directly at the STV at 19h45 (Pontile Istria, see map below).
After dinner we'll walk toward the bus#6 stop in Piazza Oberdan and take the last bus for ICTP.
Please bring with you the 4Euro + 1.25Euro needed for the sea line (ticket sold on board) + bus transfer (tickets sold at tobacco shops and newsstands). They will be reimbursed along with your travel expenses.
The maps below shows the STV location (may take some time to appear in your browser), on Pontile Istria, a few minutes walk from the Delfino Verde landing place along the sea front.
