Gioco del Ponte
The Battle on the Bridge is one of the main venue and most picturesque event in Pisa during the month of June every year.
Two armies representing the two sides of the river Arno, the north side called Tramontana and the south side called Mezzogiorno, are dressed in elaborate and shimmering sixteenth century Spanish costumes.
After the march of the troops along the Lungarni there is the call to arms by the troops, and the battle itself starts at dusk as the six magistrature (that represent the different parts of the city) from each side compete under the command of their respective leaders.
