The Botanical Garden is one of the Museums of the Department of Environmental Biology of the Sapienza University of Rome. It covers an area of about 12 hectares in the very heart of the city, between Via della Lungara and Gianicolo Hill, occupying part of the archaeological area called Horti Getae, which in ancient times contained the thermal baths of Septimius Severus. Since 1883, the Botanical Garden of Rome has been placed in the historical garden of Villa Riario-Corsini, planned in the sixteenth century and renewed in the eighteenth century.
