MAGNET 2010

Nuclear Physics with Modern Magnetic Spectrometers
Dec. 14-16, 2010
INFN-LNS, Catania , Italy

First Announcement

Modern ray-tracing Magnetic Spectrometers allows to detect ejectiles with both large acceptance and high resolution in energy, reaction angles, mass, charge state and atomic number.  This very important achievement is reached thanks to a very careful optical design of such devices and to the full implementation of the trajectory reconstruction technique.  From the experimental Nuclear Physics point of view one expects that such Instruments allow to measure with unprecedented  accuracy even small cross sections and/or clearly detect rare events as those induced  by Radioactive Beams. Moreover the large acceptance strengthens the possibility to measure coincidences with ancillary detectors and sign the decay details of the populated states and the leading reaction mechanism.
The aim of the present workshop is to review the current applications  and outline  the future of these facilities in the field of nuclear reactions induced by both stable and RIBs, including  the detectors and electronics involved.
The covered topics will be:
Elastic and non-elastic reactions,
Nuclear spectroscopy,
Momentum and mass spectrographs,
Focal plane and ancillary detectors,

The workshop will be hosted by the INFN-LNS. It will start on Tuesday afternoon (December 14th) and will end on Thursday  midday (December 16th). The applicants are welcomed to preregister and, those wishing, submit an abstract in the registration form.
Oral presentations will be selected by the Scientific Committee among the submitted abstracts. The deadline for abstract submission is November 15th 2010.
We ask for a registration fee of 100 Euros, that should be paid upon arrival.
Some lodging, free of charge, is possible at the LNS guesthouse.
Registration Deadline : 15.11.2010.
