In this talk I will give a detailed overview of all the technical aspects of the working principles of silicon detectors. In particular I will explain how to properly operate the GALTRACE array, including the power-up and power-down procedures. I will explain how the preamplifiers' digital-slow control works and how to properly tune the FEE on a case-by-case basis.
