Description
Several groups are carrying out experiments to observe and measure the magnetic birefringence of vacuum, predicted by quantum electrodynamics (QED). We are running the new PVLAS apparatus installed in Ferrara, Italy, and the current sensitivity of the experiment has reached an unprecedented factor about 10 as the ratio between the noise and the expected QED signal. In this seminar I shall review the status of the PVLAS experiment, and I shall discuss its conceptual implications.
