Description
Although the SM is very well tested in many regimes, it is likely to be incomplete. In many of the BSM scenarios, rates for charged-lepton flavour violating (CLFV) processes are within the reach of the next generation of experiments. Many CLFV searches have a sensitivity to new physics that exceeds the LHC reach. The Mu2e experiment at Fermilab (USA) aims to measure the conversion of a muon into an electron. The conversion process results in a monochromatic electron with an energy slightly below the muon rest mass (104.97 MeV). Goal of the experiment is to improve of four orders of magnitude the previous measurement and reach a single event sensitivity of 2.5x10^-17 on the conversion rate. In the current schedule, the experiment should start at the end of 2019 for a 3 years long run.
