Description
I will review some modern developments in the field of cosmic ray physics and astrophysics both on the side of data and on the theoretical efforts made to extract from them the essential physical information. The discussion will be focused not only on the steps forward but also on the critical aspects of the comparison between data and theory. Particular emphasis will be given to the acceleration of cosmic rays in supernova remnants and the implications for the end of Galactic cosmic rays and the beginning of ultra high energy cosmic rays.
