Description

The search for detection of gravitational waves has lasted for more than 40 years and it has seen enormous progress in terms of sensitivity of the detectors setting upper limits on the flux of gravitational waves with interesting astrophysics consequences. At present we are confident that the network of advanced detectors, being developed in three different continents, will open the era of the Gravitational wave astronomy. In this talk, after a brief historical introduction, we will discuss results of astrophysical interest already obtained and will discuss the prospects for the direct detection. Conclude by discussing briefly the future perspectives of these detectors.
