Description

The Gamma Factory (GF) is an ambitious proposal, currently explored within the CERN Physics Beyond Colliders program, for a source of polarized photons with fluxes up to ≈1017 photons per second and energies up to  ≈400MeV, parameters by far exceeding those of any currently available gamma source. The high-energy secondary photons are produced via resonant back-scattering of the primary laser photons off highly relativistic partially-stripped ions circulating in the accelerator. I will give a glimpse on the physics reach of the GF if realized at the LHC, and offer an outlook for a GF at the EIC.
