Cracks in the Standard Model? A fresh look at the B anomalies 1h 30m

For nearly a decade, some decays of B mesons have hinted at possible deviations from the Standard Model — raising hopes of new physics, but also questions about underestimated hadronic effects. In this joint seminar, we take a fresh look at the so-called B anomalies, focusing on LHCb’s latest analysis of the decay B0→K*μ+μ- (arXiv:2405.17347). Ulrik Egede will explain what's new in the LHCb measurement and what the data say; Mauro Valli will discuss the current theoretical understanding of hadronic effects in these decays and the implications for new physics. Together, we’ll assess where the anomalies stand — and whether the Standard Model is still holding up.

Speakers: Mauro Valli (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare), Prof. Ulrik Egede (Monash University)
