Description
The precise relation between low-energy, nonperturbative QCD and the rich structure of nuclear many-body systems is one of the major challenges. In addition and complementary to lattice QCD, effective field theories allow one to establish a bridge between QCD and low-energy properties of hadrons and nuclei. I discuss the status and some recent applications of this framework in the single, few- and many-nucleon sectors including the first ab initio calculation of the Hoyle state.
