Description
The EuPRAXIA (European Plasma Research Accelerator with eXcellence In Applications) project represents a pivotal step forward in the development and implementation of compact plasma-based particle accelerators in Europe. As a pan-European initiative, EuPRAXIA is building the foundation for a novel concept of distributed research infrastructure. The recent selection of the second implementation pillar (Laser Driven Pillar) at ELI-ERIC marks a significant milestone on the EuPRAXIA roadmap towards implementation.
Following its inclusion in the 2021 ESFRI Roadmap, EuPRAXIA has achieved remarkable progress across scientific, technological, and organizational domains. These include advancements in plasma acceleration techniques, X-Band test and design, betatrone radiation source and laser technology together with the development of a comprehensive implementation and governance model for a distributed infrastructure.
Recent key achievements will be presented, highlighting the outcomes of coordinated efforts across multiple European institutions. In addition, an outlook will be provided on the next steps and remaining challenges, as the project transitions from design to realization and moves toward the establishment of EuPRAXIA as European Research Infrastructure.
