Over the last decade, considerable attention has been devoted to the extension of the strict soft-collinear factorization of scattering amplitudes to subleading powers. In this talk, I will review how this extension spurred the development of new techniques (based on Wilson lines and the worldline formalism) that can be naturally implemented in a variety of contexts. Specifically, I will concentrate on the following applications. The first one deals with soft gluons and the logarithmic structure of collider observables to all orders. The second one concerns soft photons and an old experimental conundrum dating back to LEP. Finally, I will mention how these techniques are powerful also for the gravitational wave program.
