Subject: Review of Project Reformatting and Strategic Planning

Attendees: Martina Allegro, Faical Azaiez (first part), Lorenzo Bonechi, Marco Bruschi, Raffaele D'Alessandro, Sara Haghshenas, Andrea Pesce, Manuela Schisani

Main Discussion Points:

Project Reformatting Evaluation:

  • The latest presentation of the restructured project was evaluated against the criteria set by Manuela and Andrea.
  • Key concerns were raised about the project's current inability to:
    • Serve as a "convening platform," a concept that requires further clarification.
    • Incorporate the accomplishments and findings of the Horizon2020-funded ENRICH project.

Unaddressed Call Requirements:

  • The need to facilitate the organization of regular EU-AU innovation stakeholder meetings remains unmet.
  • The project still requires mechanisms to provide de-risking support for SMEs advancing to market with innovations initially supported by Eureka’s Innowwide program.

Resolutions:

a) Focus on Proof of Concept:

  • The Italian groups will direct their upcoming efforts towards executing the Proof of Concept for muography in the #105 area of the Cradle of Humankind.

b) Consortium Engagement:

  • Maintain and enhance the existing consortium through strategic partnerships, including the WITS University R&I department.

c) Local Engagement in Muography:

  • Initiate and nurture interest in muography among South African entities, particularly those in the geological and geophysical sectors, to demonstrate its utility in their fields (e.g., mining, dam assessment).

d) Strategic Outlook and Future Actions:

  • As outlined by Manuela and Andrea in their email, this initiative is part of "Africa Initiative II" which has been translated into the publication of 30 dedicated topics within different HEU 2023-2024 calls and work programs (Africa Initiative I had the same development in WPs 2021-2022). In particular, dedicated topics for joint AU-EU actions have been included within the Research Infrastructures, IEE and Digital, Industry and Space programs. "Africa Initiative III" is already being worked on and will be applied to the upcoming WPs. It is expected that actions will be replicated in the programs already mentioned in addition to others yet unknown. Also, in the short-, medium- and long-term strategy, a special focus is placed on researcher mobility, knowledge transfer and the creation of joint doctoral programs (focus goal of MSCAs Staff Exchange).

Next Steps:

  • Next Meeting Scheduled: Progress will be reviewed on points a-d on Wednesday, April 10th, at 14:30.
