AI for lung cancer screening: emerging applications

by Dr Giulia De Luca

Europe/Rome
Description

Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in both men and women, accounting for more than 1.8 million deaths in 2022. Early diagnosis represents the most effective countermeasure and is achieved with the implementation of dedicated screening trials. However, completed trials revealed that the current screening strategies are still suboptimal. This opens the field to artificial intelligence (AI), which promise to make the screening faster and more personalized.

During this seminar we will delve into the jungle of the newest AI-powered applications that could take over future lung cancer screening programs, trying to unveil their lights and shadows. We will also discuss about good practices for the development of transparent, and reproducible AI –based healthcare solutions, with an eye on the European AI act proposal
