Particle physics techniques, detectors and related knowhow have been, since the very beginning, used for cancer therapy applications. Nowadays proton and 12C ion beams are used to treat deep-seated solid tumors, profiting from their high spatial selectivity in the dose release to spare the healthy tissues. Recently, also high intensity electron beams are being considered due to their sparing effect observed in recent in-vivo experiments whenever a dose rate one thousand times larger than the conventional one is achieved (~10 Gy/s, leading to the so-called FLASH effect). In this seminar we discuss the techniques and tools used for planning and monitoring these charged particles treatments.
