ABSTRACT

Hierarchical framework multiscale imaging is currently possible using x-ray micro and nanotomography systems in synchrotron radiation sources. Leveraging on the advances in optics and detectors currently used in synchrotron, we have been able to achieve very similar results in high resolution and contrast for a number of samples using lab based sources. Combining the sample size and resolution range of a novel MicroXCT (with resolution to sub micron) and the nanoscale imaging capabilities of the nanoXCT ( with resolution to 50 nm), a true multiscale imaging can be achieved for a variety of material science to life science specimens. Characterization of geomaterials, ceramics, composites, fibers, tissue engineering and biological samples will be presented. Results will be contrasted with those obtained from synchrotron, SEMs, histology and MRI.
