Description
In this talk I will discuss the phenomenon of heavy-quark hadroproduction and decay due to cosmic rays interactions with the Earth atmosphere, giving rise to prompt neutrino fluxes. These fluxes are a background for searches of high-energy astrophysical neutrinos at Very Large Volume Neutrino Telescopes (VLVnuTs). I will investigate the uncertainties on those fluxes, especially focusing on those coming from our limited knowledge of QCD. I will also discuss the possibility that measurements at VLVnuTs can help constraining soft QCD aspects, complementing the most recent results of fixed target and collider experiments (in particular the Large Hadron Collider).
