Description

We propose a program of measurements of electric and magnetic dipole moments of charm, beauty and strange baryons at the LHC, based on the phenomenon of spin precession as induced by the intense electromagnetic field between atomic planes of bent crystals. Studies of crystal channeling and spin precession of positively- and negatively-charged particles are presented, along with the expected sensitivities using an optimized layout for the LHCb detector. The implications of such measurements are discussed emphasizing the potential of charm EDM physics to constrain speculative theories beyond the Standard Model. Mostly based on Eur. Phys. J. C (2017) 77:828.
