Multidisciplinarity has always been a distinctive feature of SIRR (Società Italiana per le Ricerche sulle Radiazioni). The Society has continuously tried to pursue all aspects, physical, chemical, biological, medical, of radiation research. This characteristic is reflected in the biennial national meetings. Following the formulation initiated in the previous edition, the 2016 meeting, still encompassing the various disciplines, will be devoted to a particular sector of radiation research. This year the focus will be on
radiation therapy with charged particles
The sessions will cover, together with the medical and clinical aspects, the contribution of the basic research on the effects of charged particle irradiation. Each session will be opened by an invited seminar, after which the floor will be given to contributed communications. SIRR hopes that the meeting will foster a renovated interest in radiation research, especially by showing how different kinds of expertise have to complement each other.
