Description
One of the most interesting questions in astroparticle physics today is the apparent discrepancy of muons produced in extensive air showers at ultra-high energies and predictions of this quantity. Related to this, there is also the open question about the high-energy end of the muon/neutrino spectrum in air showers, which can have significant implications on the interpretation of the PeV neutrinos observed by Icecube. It is not straightforward to learn about the relevant phase-space of hadronic multi-particle production from accelerator experiments. Dedicated experiments and analyses will be needed to answer these questions.
