Description
A review of cross section measurements is presented for the production of a W or Z vector boson in association with bottom or charm quarks performed at the Tevatron and at the Large Hadron Collider. Particulrar emphasis will be devoted to recent results from the ATLAS experiment. Vector bosons are reconstructed in their leptonic decays. Jets associated with bottom or charm quarks are identified by means of the long lifetime, the high mass and the decay properties of the heavy flavour hadrons. In the case of W/Z+charm production the exclusive reconstruction of D mesons has also been exploited. The high precision of the results obtained for these processes allows for an accurate test of perturbative QCD predictions, including differential studies of the event kinematics. Furthermore the results recently published for W+charm production, which provide an important constraint for the strange parton density function, will be discussed.
