Description
One of the key safety issues about the future SPES-LARAMED facility operation is the implementation of the in-depth safety strategy on nuclear related aspects. The confinement of radioactivity load into air during operation is indeed one of the most critical ones, having strong impact on the machine operation. Moreover the ventilation network architecture has to provide engineering answer to problems bound to the potential fire of areas containing hazardous materials, in order to prevent uncontrolled release into the environment. The international standard ISO 17873 "Criteria for the design and operation of ventilation systems for nuclear installations other than nuclear reactors" provides rules for areas classifications and fire sectors to be implemented, in order to keep the proper confinement (pressure drop levels). The presentation concerns the starting design specification, the first fluid-dynamic studies with CONTAM_CFD tool of the -1 level of SPES building and related technical aspects of the current ventilation plant which is being installed in the new SPES building underground area. A proposed preliminary layout architecture for the final ventilation system plant, taking into account the different pressure drop values needed in different areas as requested by ISO 17873 standard. However every ventilation network architecture has to be properly designed according to the potential risks.
