Description
Scaling relations among the properties of galaxy clusters embody important clues on the formation and evolution of cosmic structures. They result from the main gravitational processes, which shape the scaling relations as simple self-similar power-laws. Deviations from this scheme may indicate that non-gravitational physics, such as feedback and non-thermal processes, contribute significantly to the global energy budget in clusters. The unbiased assessment of the scaling laws can be often reduced to the traditional problem of linear regression of astronomical data.
