User Requirements for new Generation Storage Ring Light Sources

New x-ray synchrotron light sources in the construction or in the design phase and most of the present storage ring light sources undergoing major upgrade plans are aiming at strongly reducing the storage ring horizontal emittance to increase the brightness of the x-ray source. A review of the user requirements and expectations for these new generation light sources is given.
