Description
Cancer can be a dreadful condition, and will affect about one third of us at some time, mainly when we are over 65. There is also a small but distressing incidence of cancer in children and young adults. There has been enormous progress in treatment over the past 50 years, and the survival probabilities for many forms of cancer have improved dramatically, with a combination of surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. However, there is always scope for further improvement, and physics has a role to play, both in increasing the tumor control and in reducing the harmful side effects. The seminar will discuss some of these approaches and opportunities. ----------------------------------------- Ken Peach University of Oxford Okinawa Institute for Science and Technology (OIST)
