Description
We discuss the main features of recent LHC data on elastic pp scattering by giving a simple parametrization to the elastic amplitude, including two exponentials with a relative phase. We argue that such an amplitude, introduced a long time ago by Barger and Phillips (BP), in spite of its simplicity, is able to reproduce general aspects of elastic differential cross section at LHC7, especially in the region |t|>0.2 GeV^2. Nevertheless, in order to cover the full range in |t|, we find that the original BP parametrization should be modified. In this context, we show that including the proton form factor in the BP amplitude improves significantly the description of data sets in te whole momentum-transfer range. These results, being almost model-independent, may provide good insights for model-building and can be used on checks of asymptotia in hadronic interactions.
