StaND4LQ
This is the first edition of StaND4LQ: State of the Art & New Directions for Lattice Gauge Theory and Quantum Simulation. The workshop will be held in Pisa from 30 September to 2 October 2026 and is organized entirely by PhD students in Physics at the University of Pisa. It will bring together researchers working on lattice gauge theories, lattice QCD, quantum simulation, quantum computing, and quantum many-body physics.
The increasing precision of lattice calculations, together with the rapid development of quantum technologies and modern computational methods, is opening new possibilities for the study of strongly interacting quantum systems. At the same time, major theoretical and numerical challenges remain, including efficient Monte Carlo sampling, real-time dynamics, the simulation of finite-density systems, and the representation of gauge theories on quantum devices. Addressing these challenges requires closer interaction between lattice field theory, quantum information, machine learning, and quantum many-body physics.
The workshop will provide a forum for researchers at different career stages working on classical and quantum approaches to lattice field theories and quantum many-body systems. Topics will include precision lattice QCD, advanced Monte Carlo and machine-learning methods, quantum algorithms and quantum simulation of gauge theories, tensor-network approaches, and the dynamics of open and non-equilibrium quantum systems.
Invited talks by established researchers will be complemented by shorter contributions from early-career scientists. The workshop aims to provide an overview of recent progress, encourage the exchange of ideas across different communities, and foster new collaborations at the interface of lattice gauge theory and quantum simulation.
Contributions from participants will be in the form of invited seminars, submitted talks and posters.
The deadline for submission of an abstract for a contributed talk or a poster is September 23rd, 2026.
No registration fee is required.
Coffee breaks are offered by the organization.
