Description
The role of correlations in nuclei, induced by the short-range structure of the nucleon-nucleon interaction, is discussed, with respect to both theoretical calculations and recent experimental data from (e,e'), (e,e'p) and (e,e'2p) reactions. The need for the use of spectral functions to describe the correlated strength is emphasized. The role of the correlate strength in radial space allows one to understand a number of difficulties with mean field descriptions of nuclei encountered in the past.
