Description
The surface resistance Rs of superconductors shows a complex behaviour on the external parameters, temperature, frequency, RF magnetic and electric filed. In particular there is no widely accepted model which can explain the increasing surface resistance with applied field. In order to investigate Rs over a wide parameter range of samples, representing cavity the surfaces, CERNs 400 MHz Quadrupole Resonator has been extended to 800 and 1200 MHz. Its frequency independent magnetic field configuration in combination with the frequency dependent ratio between peak electric and magnetic field allow for world-wide unique tests of the field dependent Rs.
