Summer School on Photovoltaics

The School in short

Where:

The school will be hosted at the “Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture”.

Why:

A school for PhD students and early-career researchers focused on photovoltaics is essential to accelerate innovation in the transition to sustainable energy systems. Photovoltaic technology is evolving rapidly, from silicon-based devices to emerging materials such as perovskites, tandem cells, and organic semiconductors. This school will create a structured environment where young scientists can gain advanced knowledge in device physics, materials characterization, fabrication processes, and system integration.

Beyond technical training, such a school fosters interdisciplinary dialogue among physicists, chemists, engineers, and data scientists, encouraging collaboration across traditionally separated domains. It also promotes the exchange of best practices in experimental design, reproducibility, and scientific communication. Networking opportunities with leading experts and industry stakeholders help participants understand real-world challenges, technology transfer pathways, and market constraints.

Investing in high-level training at this stage of researchers’ careers strengthens the scientific community, enhances research quality, and supports the development of innovative, scalable photovoltaic solutions crucial for global decarbonization goals.
