PJC: Alfredo Stanzione "Recent Ideas on Approximate Flavor Symmetries"
Sala Direzione INFN
After reviewing the basic concepts of Minimal Flavor Violation and frameworks with approximate U(2) flavor symmetries, I will discuss some recent ideas proposed in arXiv:2512.04159 and arXiv:2510.03403. In the former, the authors identify the minimal continuous subgroup that must be approximately preserved in order to allow for TeV-scale new physics, while introducing only a small number of breaking spurions of order O(10^-2) capable of reproducing the SM Yukawa couplings and the CKM matrix. If time permits, I will also outline the main idea of arXiv:2510.03403, where spurions are taken in “non-minimal” representations of the flavor group. This allows non-hierarchical SMEFT flavor violation originating from the same spurions that generate hierarchical Yukawas.
