Cosmic strings are relics from the early Universe whose detection would provide direct evidence for physics beyond the Standard Model. I will summarise the methods currently used to predict their gravitational-wave signatures, and the work I have done towards improving these predictions. This primarily consists of HPC simulations of field theory strings using adaptive mesh refinement, and more recently, analytic calculations using techniques from classical string theory.
