Sumanta Chakraborty "Black holes are not alone"

Europe/Rome
Sala Cortini, Fermi Building

Sala Cortini, Fermi Building

Description

I will discuss how environmental effects, in particular, the effect of dark matter surrounding a black hole may affect its properties and how these can be exploited to assess the nature of environments using gravitational waves. In these connections, I will discuss the effect of the dark matter environment on the quasi-normal modes as well as the tidal Love numbers of black holes, along with possible constraints on the dark matter distribution from gravitational wave phasing in the context of extreme mass ratio inspiral.
