Description
Three-body (3N) forces have been shown to be essential to the description of light nuclei. However, most of the studies that include microscopic 3N forces restrict to light systems. Recently, chiral effective field theory (EFT) nucleon -nucleon (NN) and 3N interactions have been applied medium-mass nuclei. There are no phenomenological or fitted parameters in these calculations. I will present new results regarding the ground and excited states of neutron rich calcium isotopes. In particular, I will focus on the importance of including 3N forces in obtaining the right binding energies and excitation spectra for these isotopes. Based on our results, I will also explore the existence of magic numbers N=32,34 or 40.
