Pavia is located on the main artery Milano-Genova and it is connected to both cities by frequent IC and regional trains. The trip from Milano Centrale railway station to Pavia takes about 30 min. Pavia is also within the suburban train network of the Milano area, being the terminus of the line S13.
Timetables are available at the Trenitalia web site. Reservation is required for IC trains. For all other trains (regionale, IR, RV, suburbano...) you do not need to reserve, but you must validate the ticket before starting the trip. Trenitalia: national connections. Trenord: suburban trains.
