In the first part of the presentation, I will describe how
the Born-Oppenheimer approximation can be used to compute the spectrum of tetraquarks of the type $c\bar{c}q\bar{q}$. I will show how this computed spectrum contains states that can be identified with the
observed exotic mesons $X(3872)$ and $Z_c(3900)$. In the second part, I will illustrate how the results of the Born-Oppenheimer
approximation can be applied to analyze the $X(3872)$ radiative decays
and I will compare the result with a recent LHCb study.
