Reflection and Kramers-Wannier duality in 1+1D spin chains

I will present our recent work where we introduce a "dual-reflection" interface between two spin chains, by combining spatial reflection and Kramers-Wannier duality. This gives a Z_4 symmetry that squares to the Ising Z_2 symmetry, for the open chain. I will discuss how to map the system to Majorana fermions, where the Z_4 symmetry is simply reflection with respect to a Majorana site, and the construction of Majorana strong zero modes.

The seminar is intended to be accessible also to high-energy theorists.
