      Why high-pressure matters 20m

Over the past century, high-pressure experiments led to intriguing physics discoveries, revealing new phases of materials and enabling the synthesis of novel compounds. In this talk, I will briefly discuss the significance of high-pressure experiments and introduce the most used and iconic device for generating high static pressures: the diamond anvil cell (DAC). The often-overlooked experimental aspects of working with DACs will be discussed, and a high-pressure experiment on 2D materials will be presented.
