We derive a robust bound on dark photon dark matter scenarios where the dark photon mass is generated through the Higgs mechanism, based on the requirement that symmetry breaking must occur sufficiently early in the universe. For renormalizable Higgs potentials, our bound reads m_gamma' /q_H e_H >> 60 eV (2\pi/lambda)^(1/4), where m_gamma' is the dark photon mass, e_H is the gauge coupling, q_H is the charge of the dark Higgs boson, and lambda is the Higgs quartic coupling. This places a stringent bound on the kinetic mixing with photons, especially at masses below 10^-11 eV.
We encourage participants in the COST action to send us a small summary, typically smaller than the abstract, of their own articles that will appear in the arXiv (after they appear, with their arXiv numbers). The summary will be disseminated in the newsletter.
