Description

This is the Indico webpage for the five-day School that will take place at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory (LNGS) of the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) from 17 to 21 February, 2025, within the framework of the National PhD Programme in Technologies for Fundamental Research in Physics and Astrophysics, proposed by the University of Padua in collaboration with ten other universities, with the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) and the National Insitute for Astrophysics (INAF).

This meeting will allow all students to:

  • get to know each other and the teaching staff;
  • understand the mission, structure, organisation and services of INFN and INAF;
  • participate in activities and discussions that will enrich their doctoral training;

  • know the main scientific and technological challenges that motivate the research of the two institutions and the tools used to carry it out;
  • visit the scientific and technological infrastructures of the Gran Sasso National Laboratory.

The first day of the School will serve as a kick-off for the 40th cycle doctoral students, who are therefore requested to arrive in time for the start of the event on Monday 17th February at 14:00.

Students of the 39th cycle are also invited to attend the very interesting talks of the first day; those unable to make it, are invited to join the group in the evening of the same day for the Welcome Dinner that will be held from 19:00. Students of the 2nd year are also asked to prepare a poster for the poster session on Tuesday evening (more information available in the "Poster session" page).

The School will end for everyone on Friday 21st February in the early afteroon.

Attendance is compulsory for all PhD students: those who are unable to attend will be asked to provide a justification. For extra-EU students who won't manage to get their Visa in time, remote attendance will be allowed when possible.

IMPORTANT
On February 17 a plenary special session open to local research and academic community will be held. The session is entitled "From the laboratory to the cosmos: the context driving technologies for physics and astrophysics" and will take place in room E. Majorana starting from 2:00 PM CET. Event poster, agenda and registration form are available at https://agenda.infn.it/e/lab-cosmos

Please note that the registration is MANDATORY for local researchers ONLY: therefore, all students, supervisors, organizers and lecturers already registered for TECH-FPA Retreat School MUST NOT register again for the special session!
