Guided tour of

CASTELLO ARAGONESE

Wednesday April 16th

The Aragonese Castle is a fortress situated on a small islet of volcanic rock off the eastern coast of Ischia Island. It is located in the area of Ischia Ponte, formerly known as the Borgo di Celsa, and is connected to it by a 220-meter-long stone bridge.

Access to the castle is through a tunnel carved into the rock, constructed in the mid-15th century by order of Alfonso V of Aragon (before then, the fortress could only be reached by sea and then climbing the islet via a staircase).

Having crossed twenty-five centuries of history, this fortress perched on a rock has become perhaps the most famous symbol of Ischia. It is certainly one of the favorite attractions for visitors to the island, due to its beauty and the unique panorama it offers of the island and the Gulf of Naples.
